My husband and I drove down to Lanesboro in southern Minnesota and biked on a beautiful August day! Getting out into nature through exercise is good for our heart, mind, and spirit, to say nothing of strengthening our relationships with our loved ones! Make the choice today to be healthy and active, even if you have been sedentary for days, weeks, or even a number of years. Take it slowly and do what you can, trying not to hurt yourself, because then you will have to take time off from exercising to allow your body to heal, which can be discouraging and make it difficult to get started again. Let today be the day you make this commitment to yourself!
I will be 70 in March, 2026. I always thought 70 was old, until I'm nearly there! Now I see it as a challenge to stay healthy and active so I am able to engage life as fully as possible with my husband, our kids, and grandkids.

Making the choice for health is one of the most important decisions we will make in our adulthood. As we leave the active phase of childhood and enter adolescence, young adulthood and middle and older adulthood, we naturally become more sedentary and must make the decision to move and use our muscles, choose healthy foods that nourish our body and brain, and make positive thinking our go-to approach to life.
At the center of all this rests our faith in God! As Catholics, we have the seven sacraments that accompany us throughout the various changes and stages of our lives. We are invited to incorporate our faith into every aspect of our lives so God can use us right where we are: in our homes, at work, with our friends and extended family, and in our communities. God is using us wherever we are and a healthy body and healthy brain are essential for this work!
Make the choice today to be healthy. Eat nutritious foods for your meals and snacks. Drink water throughout the day. Get exercise EVERY day, not just three times a week! Take the stairs when possible and make it part of your everyday routine to be active: stand and move every hour; continue to garden and clean (getting up and down on your own), resist a sedentary lifestyle.
This is a choice and no one can make that choice for us but ourselves. God can use us wherever we are, however, we will likely influence more people when we are active and involved with life, which requires good health.
May God bless you today as you engage life with a positive outlook and a healthy body.
